Ford Puma Dimensions and Boot Capacity: Complete Guide

The Ford Puma dimensions and boot capacity make this compact SUV an interesting choice for drivers who want a practical car without sacrificing manoeuvrability. Whether we're navigating narrow city streets, loading luggage for a weekend trip or transporting family essentials, understanding its size helps us decide whether it suits our needs.

The Ford Puma combines the relatively compact exterior dimensions of a small crossover with a surprisingly practical luggage compartment. One of its most distinctive features is the Ford MegaBox, an additional storage area located beneath the boot floor.

However, not every Ford Puma offers exactly the same dimensions or luggage capacity. Measurements can vary depending on the model year, engine, trim level and whether we're considering the conventional Puma, the sporty Puma ST or the fully electric Puma Gen-E.

In this guide, we'll explore Ford Puma exterior dimensions, interior space, boot measurements, seating capacity and the differences between the available versions.

Ford Puma Dimensions at a Glance

The Ford Puma belongs to the compact SUV segment, offering a balance between everyday practicality and manageable exterior proportions.

According to Ford's technical specifications, the conventional Puma measures approximately 4.19 metres long, while certain sporty versions are slightly longer.

Ford Puma Exterior Dimensions Table

MeasurementStandard PumaPuma ST
Length4,186 mm4,226 mm
Width excluding mirrors1,805 mm1,805 mm
Width including mirrors1,930 mm1,930 mm
Height1,550 mm1,533 mm
Wheelbase2,588 mm2,588 mm
Ground clearance (2024 specification, kerb condition)163 mm152 mm
Number of seats55

These figures are based on Ford's 2024 technical specifications. Other model-year and market specifications may quote slightly different dimensions.

The relatively short body helps make the Puma convenient for urban driving, while its SUV-inspired design provides a more elevated seating position than many conventional hatchbacks.

How Long Is the Ford Puma?

The Ford Puma length is approximately 4,186 mm (4.19 metres) for the standard version covered by Ford's 2024 technical data.

The Puma ST measures around 4,226 mm (4.23 metres), primarily because of differences in its exterior styling and bodywork.

This compact length provides several practical advantages:

  • Easier parking in busy urban areas.
  • Better manoeuvrability on narrow residential streets.
  • Convenient access to smaller parking spaces.
  • A useful balance between cabin room and exterior size.
  • Easier handling compared with many larger SUVs.

For everyday commuting, the Ford Puma's length should feel manageable to drivers familiar with superminis and compact hatchbacks.

However, when checking whether the vehicle will fit inside a garage, we should also allow enough room to open the tailgate and walk around the car.

How Wide Is the Ford Puma?

The Ford Puma measures approximately 1,805 mm wide without mirrors.

When the exterior mirrors are extended, the total width increases to approximately 1,930 mm.

These measurements are particularly important when we need to navigate narrow roads, enter garages or park between other vehicles.

Ford Puma Width With and Without Mirrors

ConfigurationWidth
Body width without mirrors1,805 mm
Width with mirrors extended1,930 mm
Width with mirrors foldedApproximately 1,805 mm

The difference between body width and mirror-to-mirror width is worth remembering.

For example, a parking space may accommodate the vehicle itself but leave limited clearance when we open the doors.

If we're planning to buy a Ford Puma and have a particularly narrow garage, measuring the entrance and the available internal width beforehand is essential.

How Tall Is the Ford Puma?

The standard Ford Puma has an overall height of approximately 1,550 mm, or 1.55 metres, according to Ford's 2024 specification.

The Puma ST is slightly lower, measuring approximately 1,533 mm.

This lower profile gives the vehicle a sporty appearance while maintaining the elevated driving position associated with compact crossovers.

Does the Ford Puma Fit in a Low Garage?

Most conventional multi-storey car parks provide sufficient height clearance for the Ford Puma.

However, we should always check the posted height restrictions, particularly if the car has roof bars, a roof box or other accessories.

Remember that fitting inside a garage does not automatically mean there's enough clearance to open the rear tailgate fully.

Ford Puma Wheelbase and Turning Circle

The Ford Puma's wheelbase measures approximately 2,588 mm.

The wheelbase is the distance between the centres of the front and rear wheels. It helps determine the relationship between vehicle length, cabin space and driving characteristics.

A longer wheelbase can improve interior packaging and stability, but the overall design of the vehicle also matters.

The Puma has a relatively compact turning circle, although the exact figure varies by version and wheel configuration.

Why Does the Wheelbase Matter?

The wheelbase influences several aspects of everyday driving:

  • Passenger space: It affects how much room can be allocated between the front and rear seats.
  • Handling: It contributes to the vehicle's stability and responsiveness.
  • Ride comfort: Wheelbase length is one of several factors affecting how a vehicle reacts to uneven roads.
  • Manoeuvrability: It works alongside steering geometry to influence turning ability.

For a small SUV, the Puma offers a useful compromise between compact dimensions and cabin practicality.

Ford Puma Boot Capacity

One of the biggest selling points of the Ford Puma is its luggage compartment.

The latest conventional Puma specifications advertise up to 456 litres of boot capacity with the rear seats in place, including the underfloor MegaBox.

When the rear seats are folded, the available luggage space increases to approximately 1,216 litres under Ford's published measurement conditions.

Ford Puma Boot Capacity Table

Boot configurationCapacity
Rear seats uprightUp to 456 litres
Rear seats foldedUp to 1,216 litres
MegaBox underfloor compartmentUp to 80 litres
Seating capacity5 passengers

These capacities refer to specified versions of the current conventional Puma. Earlier models, particularly some mild-hybrid variants, may have different figures.

The 456-litre measurement includes the MegaBox rather than representing additional conventional boot-floor space.

This distinction matters when comparing the Puma against other compact SUVs.

A vehicle with a slightly smaller quoted boot could still provide a wider or more convenient main loading area.

Ford Puma Boot Dimensions in Centimetres

Boot capacity in litres is useful, but physical measurements are often more important when we're trying to fit a particular object.

For example, transporting a pushchair, suitcase or large cardboard box depends on the shape of the luggage compartment.

Ford's technical specifications provide the following approximate measurements for the conventional Puma.

Boot measurementDimension
Load floor length to rear seats72.5 cm
Load floor length with rear seats folded147.2 cm
Width between wheel arches100 cm
Maximum loading height86.5 cm

These figures describe specific internal measurements rather than a perfectly rectangular storage box.

The actual usable space depends on the position of the boot floor, the angle of the rear seatbacks and the shape of the object we're carrying.

Ford Puma Boot Length

With the rear seats upright, the boot floor offers approximately 725 mm of loading length.

When the seats are folded, the available load-floor length can increase to approximately 1,472 mm.

This makes the Puma useful for transporting longer everyday items, although some may still need to be placed diagonally.

Ford Puma Boot Width

The boot offers approximately 1,000 mm of width between the wheel arches.

This dimension helps us determine whether objects such as large suitcases, storage boxes or folded pushchairs can fit across the floor.

Because the compartment isn't perfectly rectangular, measuring bulky items before loading them is always recommended.

What Is the Ford Puma MegaBox?

The Ford Puma MegaBox is one of the vehicle's most practical features.

Instead of offering only a conventional luggage compartment, Ford designed an additional storage area beneath the boot floor.

In versions with the full 80-litre MegaBox, this compartment provides extra room for objects that might otherwise be difficult to accommodate.

Its useful features include:

  • Up to 80 litres of additional underfloor storage.
  • A durable, water-resistant lining.
  • A drain plug that makes cleaning easier.
  • A deep storage area for taller objects.
  • Separation between dirty equipment and ordinary luggage.

We particularly like the concept for drivers who regularly transport muddy footwear, outdoor equipment or wet sports accessories.

How Deep Is the Ford Puma MegaBox?

Ford originally described the MegaBox as measuring approximately 305 mm deep, with a compartment around 763 mm wide and 752 mm long.

The precise dimensions and usable volume depend on the version.

Its depth can be particularly useful when the adjustable boot floor is removed or repositioned.

Can the Ford Puma MegaBox Hold Wet Items?

Yes. The compartment was specifically designed to accommodate items such as muddy boots and wet outdoor equipment.

Its protective lining and drain plug make cleaning more convenient.

However, we should still dry the compartment when necessary and avoid leaving dirty water inside for extended periods.

Ford Puma Boot Space With Rear Seats Down

Folding the rear seats significantly increases the Puma's carrying capacity.

Ford quotes up to 1,216 litres for the conventional Puma with the rear seats folded under its specified loading conditions.

The folding seatbacks help create a much longer cargo area suitable for transporting larger items.

What Can We Carry With the Seats Folded?

The additional space can be useful for:

  • Flat-packed furniture.
  • Several large suitcases.
  • Camping equipment.
  • Sports equipment.
  • Moving boxes.
  • Large shopping purchases.

The precise amount we can carry depends on the item's dimensions and whether its shape fits through the tailgate opening.

It's also important to remember that luggage capacity and maximum payload are different measurements.

Even when there's enough physical room, the vehicle's permitted load weight must not be exceeded.

Does the Ford Puma Have a Flat Boot Floor?

The Ford Puma features an adjustable boot floor in many versions, helping us customise how the luggage compartment is arranged.

Depending on the model, the load floor can be positioned to prioritise either storage volume or convenience.

A higher floor position can provide a more convenient loading surface and help reduce the step between the boot and folded rear seatbacks.

A lower floor position allows us to make use of more vertical space.

The floor can also be removed to access the underfloor storage compartment.

Benefits of the Adjustable Boot Floor

An adjustable boot floor is particularly useful because it allows us to adapt the storage area to different situations.

For example, we might prefer the raised position for everyday groceries but use a lower configuration when carrying taller luggage.

This flexibility is one of the reasons the Puma's boot can feel more practical than its compact exterior dimensions suggest.

Ford Puma Interior Dimensions

Exterior size tells only part of the story.

If we're planning to use the Ford Puma for commuting, family journeys or longer motorway trips, interior dimensions are equally important.

Ford's 2024 technical specifications give us a useful picture of the available passenger space.

Ford Puma Interior Space Table

Interior measurementApproximate dimension
Front headroom without panoramic roof1,000 mm
Front headroom with panoramic roof983 mm
Maximum front legroom1,113 mm
Front shoulder room1,348 mm
Rear headroom without panoramic roof965 mm
Rear legroom863 mm
Rear shoulder room1,320 mm

The exact measurements can vary with model year, seat configuration and equipment.

Overall, the Puma provides a comfortable environment for everyday use, although taller adults may find rear-seat space more restrictive than in larger SUVs.

Ford Puma Front Seat Space

The front seats offer enough adjustment for a wide range of drivers.

With approximately 1,000 mm of front headroom in the configuration without a panoramic roof, the Puma provides reasonable vertical space for a compact crossover.

The driving position also feels relatively elevated compared with many traditional hatchbacks.

Is the Ford Puma Comfortable for Tall Drivers?

Many taller drivers should be able to find a suitable driving position, particularly with the adjustable driver's seat.

However, comfort depends on more than published headroom.

Leg length, seating posture, steering-wheel adjustment and seat design can make a significant difference.

We recommend a test drive before purchasing, especially for drivers who are particularly tall.

Ford Puma Rear Seat Space

The Ford Puma has seating for five passengers, but the rear bench is more comfortable for two adults than three on longer journeys.

Ford's published dimensions include approximately 965 mm of rear headroom without a panoramic roof.

Rear legroom varies by model and measurement specification.

The rear seats are suitable for daily commuting, occasional adult passengers and family use.

However, the Puma is still a compact crossover rather than a large family SUV.

Can Three Adults Sit in the Back?

Three adults can occupy the rear seats, provided the vehicle's seating and restraint requirements are met.

Nevertheless, shoulder room is limited compared with larger SUVs.

For longer journeys, two rear passengers will generally enjoy more comfort.

Families regularly travelling with three rear-seat occupants may benefit from considering a wider vehicle.

Is the Ford Puma Big Enough for a Family?

The Ford Puma can be a practical option for a small family.

Its combination of compact exterior dimensions, five seats and flexible boot storage makes it attractive for everyday tasks.

We can use it for school runs, shopping trips, weekend breaks and routine commuting.

Ford Puma for Families With Young Children

For families with one or two young children, the Puma can offer a useful balance between size and convenience.

The boot can accommodate many everyday family items, including shopping bags, children's equipment and some pushchairs.

However, child seats and pushchairs vary considerably in size.

Before buying, we recommend checking that the chosen child seats fit properly and that the pushchair can be loaded without difficulty.

Rear-facing child seats may also reduce the amount of front passenger legroom available.

Ford Puma for Family Holidays

The Puma's luggage compartment should be suitable for many short family holidays.

With up to 456 litres in specified conventional versions, we have a reasonable amount of space for suitcases and smaller travel items.

The MegaBox can help separate shoes or other accessories from the main luggage area.

For longer holidays with several passengers, careful packing may still be necessary.

Ford Puma Boot Capacity by Model Year

One important detail when researching Ford Puma boot space is that not all model years offer identical capacity.

Earlier Puma versions were available with different petrol and mild-hybrid powertrains.

Some older mild-hybrid models had reduced luggage capacity because of the packaging of the electrical system.

Older Ford Puma Boot Capacity

VersionReported boot capacity
Certain early non-hybrid petrol models456 litres
Certain early mild-hybrid models401 litres
Current conventional Puma specificationUp to 456 litres
Current conventional Puma, seats foldedUp to 1,216 litres

This explains why we may find both 401-litre and 456-litre figures when researching a used Ford Puma.

Neither figure should automatically be applied to every Puma.

The safest approach is to check the official brochure for the exact model year and engine being considered.

Ford Puma ST Dimensions and Boot Space

The Ford Puma ST is the sportier version of the compact crossover.

Its more aggressive styling and chassis setup distinguish it from standard models.

According to Ford's 2024 technical specifications, the Puma ST measures approximately 4,226 mm long and 1,533 mm tall.

That makes it slightly longer and lower than the regular Puma covered by the same technical document.

Does the Puma ST Have a Smaller Boot?

Not necessarily.

Ford's 2024 technical specifications list a 456-litre luggage capacity for the Puma ST Powershift, matching the conventional model in that document.

The seats-folded figure is also listed as 1,216 litres.

Nevertheless, specifications can change between versions and model years.

If boot space is a priority, we should confirm the figure for the specific ST variant rather than assuming every ST has identical storage.

Ford Puma Gen-E Dimensions

The Ford Puma Gen-E is the fully electric version of the compact SUV.

It retains the familiar Puma design while introducing an electric powertrain and a different storage arrangement.

Ford's 2025 Gen-E technical factsheet lists the following dimensions.

MeasurementPuma Gen-E
Length4,214 mm
Width without mirrors1,805 mm
Width including mirrors1,930 mm
Height1,555 mm
Wheelbase2,588 mm
Turning circle10.5 metres
Number of seats5

These figures are from Ford's detailed 2025 launch specification. Dimensions quoted on some later regional Ford model pages differ slightly, so the exact market and model-year specification should be checked.

Despite its electric powertrain, the Gen-E remains a compact and city-friendly vehicle.

Ford Puma Gen-E Boot Capacity

One of the most interesting differences between the petrol Puma and the electric Gen-E is the luggage compartment.

The electric model uses a larger underfloor storage solution called the GigaBox.

Ford's published Gen-E specification includes multiple capacity measurements because the usable volume changes depending on loading height.

Ford Puma Gen-E Boot Capacity Table

ConfigurationCapacity
Rear boot, seats up, measured to seatback height523 litres
Rear boot, seats up, measured to roof574 litres
Rear seats folded, measured to roof1,283 litres
Front luggage compartment43 litres
Rear boot plus front compartment, using 523-litre rear figure566 litres

Understanding these different figures is essential.

The 523-litre figure represents rear luggage volume under one measurement condition.

The 574-litre figure measures the rear luggage compartment to roof height.

Meanwhile, the 566-litre figure combines the 523-litre rear measurement with the separate 43-litre front compartment.

They are different ways of presenting the vehicle's storage space, rather than contradictory measurements.

What Is the Ford Puma Gen-E GigaBox?

The GigaBox is an enlarged version of the conventional Puma's MegaBox.

Whereas the original MegaBox provides up to 80 litres of additional underfloor storage, Ford quotes approximately 145 litres for the electric Gen-E's GigaBox.

DesignWashable underfloor storageEnlarged underfloor storage

The GigaBox can be particularly useful when travelling with a folded pushchair, smaller suitcases or outdoor equipment.

It allows us to organise luggage rather than placing everything in one main compartment.

Ford Puma Petrol vs Electric Boot Space

If maximum luggage capacity is an important factor, the electric Puma Gen-E deserves attention.

The conventional Puma offers up to 456 litres with the seats upright, while Ford lists 523 litres for the Gen-E under its seatback-height measurement.

The electric version therefore provides an additional 67 litres when comparing those advertised figures.

However, this isn't a perfectly identical measurement-method comparison, so the real-world advantage will depend on the shape and arrangement of the luggage.

The Gen-E also has a separate front luggage compartment, which is useful for storing charging cables and smaller accessories.

Which Puma Has the Most Storage?

For drivers prioritising advertised cargo capacity, the Gen-E offers the larger overall storage arrangement.

Its GigaBox and front storage compartment make it particularly versatile.

Nevertheless, the conventional Puma remains practical, especially for buyers who prefer petrol power and don't need the additional luggage space.

Ford Puma vs Nissan Juke Dimensions

The Ford Puma competes with several compact crossovers, including the Nissan Juke.

Comparing their dimensions can help us understand how the Puma fits into its segment.

Ford Puma vs Nissan Juke Size Comparison

MeasurementFord PumaNissan Juke
Length4,186 mm4,210 mm
Width excluding mirrors1,805 mm1,800 mm
Height1,550 mm1,593 mm
Wheelbase2,588 mm2,636 mm
Boot capacityUp to 456 LUp to 422 L

Figures are representative published specifications for conventional models. Boot volumes and dimensions may vary by version.

The Nissan Juke is slightly taller and has a longer wheelbase, while the standard Puma is marginally wider and shorter.

The Puma's quoted 456-litre boot is larger than the Juke's 422-litre maximum figure for certain petrol versions.

However, the Juke's boot capacity also depends on the chosen powertrain.

When comparing the two vehicles, we should consider physical boot measurements and rear-seat comfort alongside the published capacities.

Is the Ford Puma Bigger Than a Ford Fiesta?

Yes. The modern Ford Puma crossover is generally larger and taller than the Ford Fiesta hatchback.

Although both vehicles share a compact-car philosophy, the Puma provides a more SUV-like body shape.

This brings a higher seating position and more versatile luggage arrangements.

The Puma can therefore be an attractive choice for drivers moving from a Fiesta who want additional practicality without switching to a significantly larger vehicle.

Is the Ford Puma Easy to Park?

The Puma's dimensions make it well suited to everyday urban driving.

At approximately 4.19 metres long in the standard 2024 specification, it occupies less space than many medium-sized SUVs.

Its compact footprint helps when manoeuvring around crowded streets or finding parking spaces.

However, its width with mirrors extended still needs to be considered.

Ford Puma Parking Tips

Before purchasing, we recommend checking the following:

  • Measure the width of your garage entrance.
  • Confirm there's enough space to open the driver's door.
  • Allow clearance for the rear tailgate.
  • Check overhead restrictions if roof accessories are installed.
  • Test visibility when reversing into narrow spaces.

Depending on the trim and options, parking sensors and camera systems may also make manoeuvring easier.

Can the Ford Puma Carry a Bicycle?

The Ford Puma can accommodate some bicycles with the rear seats folded, but this depends on the type and size of bicycle.

A small folding bicycle will be easier to transport than a full-size mountain bike.

For larger bicycles, removing the front wheel may be necessary.

The internal load-floor length and the shape of the tailgate opening should be checked before assuming a bicycle will fit.

An appropriate external bicycle carrier may offer a more convenient option, provided it is compatible with the vehicle and its permitted load limits.

Can You Sleep in a Ford Puma?

Sleeping inside a Ford Puma is possible in certain situations, but the vehicle isn't specifically designed as a camper.

With the rear seats folded, the cargo area provides additional length.

However, the available load-floor length of approximately 1.47 metres means that many adults would struggle to lie fully stretched out in a straight position.

The seatback angle, floor height and interior contours can also reduce the usable sleeping area.

For occasional rest, the Puma may be workable with suitable arrangements, but it wouldn't be our first choice for regular car camping.

How to Maximise Ford Puma Boot Space

Even a practical luggage compartment benefits from sensible organisation.

The Puma's adjustable load floor and underfloor storage make this easier than in many conventional hatchbacks.

1. Use the MegaBox for Smaller Items

Rather than leaving shoes, accessories and loose equipment in the main boot, we can use the underfloor compartment to keep them organised.

2. Adjust the Boot Floor

Choosing the appropriate floor position can help us accommodate taller luggage or create a more convenient loading surface.

3. Fold the Rear Seats When Necessary

For transporting larger items, folding the rear seats increases the usable cargo area significantly.

4. Choose Soft Luggage

Soft travel bags can sometimes fit more easily around the contours of a compact boot than rigid suitcases.

5. Keep Heavy Items Secure

Heavy objects should be positioned and secured appropriately so they cannot move during braking or cornering.

We should also avoid obstructing visibility and never exceed the vehicle's maximum permitted payload.

Is the Ford Puma Boot Big Enough?

For many drivers, the Ford Puma provides more than enough luggage capacity for routine use.

Its main strengths include a practical underfloor storage solution, flexible loading arrangements and useful overall boot volume.

Everyday Shopping

The Puma should comfortably handle typical weekly shopping for many households.

The MegaBox can also be useful for separating smaller items or equipment.

Weekend Trips

The boot is well suited to a range of weekend travel needs, including several bags and smaller accessories.

Families With Pushchairs

Many compact and folded pushchairs may fit, but dimensions vary considerably between products.

Testing the specific pushchair is the most reliable approach.

Airport Luggage

The Puma can accommodate a useful amount of luggage, although the number of suitcases depends on their dimensions.

Hard-shell suitcases take up more defined space than soft bags, so volume figures alone cannot guarantee that a particular combination will fit.

Ford Puma Dimensions and Boot Capacity FAQs

1. How big is the Ford Puma boot?

The current conventional Ford Puma offers up to 456 litres of boot capacity with the rear seats upright, including the MegaBox. With the rear seats folded, Ford quotes up to 1,216 litres. Some older variants have smaller quoted capacities.

2. What are the Ford Puma dimensions?

According to Ford's 2024 technical specifications, the standard Puma measures approximately 4,186 mm long, 1,805 mm wide without mirrors and 1,550 mm tall. The Puma ST is slightly longer and lower. Exact dimensions vary by version and model year.

3. Does the Ford Puma have enough boot space for a pushchair?

Many pushchairs can fit inside the Ford Puma boot, especially compact folding models. However, larger travel systems may occupy much of the available luggage space. We recommend checking the folded pushchair dimensions against the boot's physical measurements.

4. How much boot space does the Ford Puma Gen-E have?

The Ford Puma Gen-E offers 523 litres of rear boot capacity measured to seatback height, or 574 litres measured to roof height. It also includes a separate 43-litre front luggage compartment. Ford lists 1,283 litres with the rear seats folded and the space measured to the roof.

5. Is the Ford Puma spacious enough for five adults?

The Ford Puma has five seats and can carry five occupants, but its compact dimensions mean the rear bench may feel narrow for three adults on longer journeys. It's generally more comfortable for four adults or a family with children.

Conclusion: Is the Ford Puma Spacious Enough?

The Ford Puma dimensions and boot capacity make it a strong choice for drivers who want a practical compact SUV without the inconvenience of a much larger vehicle.

With a conventional body length of approximately 4.19 metres and a quoted boot capacity of up to 456 litres, the Puma combines city-friendly proportions with useful everyday storage.

The MegaBox is particularly valuable because it provides a separate compartment for items that might otherwise clutter the main luggage area.

The electric Puma Gen-E takes practicality further with its larger GigaBox, up to 523 litres measured to seatback height, 574 litres measured to roof height and an additional front storage compartment.

Of course, the ideal version depends on our priorities.

If we mainly drive around town and occasionally take longer trips, the conventional Puma offers a sensible combination of size and flexibility.

If we want an electric crossover with generous storage for its footprint, the Gen-E is especially appealing.

Ultimately, the Ford Puma demonstrates that a compact SUV doesn't need enormous exterior dimensions to provide useful interior and luggage space. Before choosing a particular version, we should always confirm its model-year specifications and check that our passengers, child seats and luggage fit comfortably.
